Television is crammed with ads for weight-control programs, exercise equipment, and special gym and spa membership offers. These will all appeal to the thousands of us who have resolved to lose weight and shape up in the new year. However, many of us either put our mental and emotional health on the back burner or ignore them altogether. According to Elaine Greer, director of pastoral care at Central Baptist Hospital, there are a number of things we can do to help ourselves emotionally and spiritually. Several other suggestions from both the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Mayo Clinic should help us all create long-lasting mental health resolutions for the new year and beyond.
