Sports psychology has become a recognized field with 10 graduate level programs currently offering degrees in this distinct discipline. The American Psychological Association (APA) expects that number to continue to rise. From its beginnings in 1938 with the Chicago Cubs, sports psychology is now used by a variety of athletes. More than 300 professional golfers work with sports psychologists.
