Media Multitasking Tied to Anxiety, Depression

Media multitasking, such as watching TV while listening to music, has been shown to be linked to signs of depression and anxiety. It is unknown if the multitasking causes these signs, or if people with these disorders turn to media as a form of coping or escape. The study that brought this to light was conducted by interviewing 319 people about their media multitasking habits and their mental health. Researchers are now turning their attention towards finding a cause and effect relationship between the two phenomena. This knowledge will help us to understand the effects of media on our social lives.
