Several myths surrounding clinical depression have led people to misunderstand the condition. First and foremost, depression is in fact a real medical problem. It is not just the Western world that experiences depression either; it affects people in every country. Unfortunately, because of the shame associated with the condition, only 1 in 5 people who have it will seek treatment. Depression affects people of all ages, though it is not necessarily a normal part of the aging process. The condition will not go away by itself, but it is highly treatable. Lastly, just because you have depression doesn’t mean that you can’t lead a productive life.
